Dumpster Sizes - How do I pick?

How much can your Friend's Pick-up truck hold?

Picking the right size Dumpster takes experience and at DumpsterSource.com know how to help! Read through the basic Dumpster Rental Sizes below to get a good idea. Also look at the "More Info" button under all of our Dumpster Rentals for additional information. Lastly, call us at 1-888-423-8677 or use Livehelper to "Chat".

Back to the Pickup truck! Should you rent a Dumpster or make a few runs with the truck? We'll help you decide by giving you rough conversions on how big each dumpster really is:::

The 10 Yard Dumpster Rental

How big is this dumpster?
10/12 Yard - 4' high, 8' wide, and 10'-12' long
* Actual dumpster sizes vary per market area.

How much can this dumpster hold?
10-12 Cubic Yards of material

The average pickup-truck holds approximately 2 yards of material so this container holds approximately 5 to 6 pick-up truck loads.

A 10 yard dumpster could be used for small basement or garage clean outs; removing a 250 sq. ft deck; trashing 1500 sq. ft. of single layer roof shingles; minor yard debris cleanup, or a small interior house remodeling jobs.

Getting bigger - The 20 Yard Dumpster Rental

How big is this dumpster?
20 Yard - 4.5' high, 8' wide, and 22' long
* Actual dumpster sizes vary per market area.

How much can this dumpster hold?
20 Cubic Yards of material

The average pickup-truck holds approximately 2 yards of material so this container holds approximately 10 pick-up truck loads. You're saving already on the gas bill!

The 20 yard dumpster can handle a large basement, attic, or garage cleanup; flooring and carpet disposal for a mid to large house; 300 to 400 square feet of deck removal; or 2500 to 3000 sq. ft. of single layer roofing shingles removal.

Now we're talking! The 30 Yard Dumpster

How big is this dumpster?
30 Yard - 6' high, 8' wide, and 22' long
* Actual dumpster sizes vary per market area.

How much can this dumpster hold?
30 Cubic Yards of material

The average pickup-truck holds approximately 2 yards of material so this container holds approximately 15 pick-up truck loads. Yup, 15 trips beating up your friend's pick-up, cutting your hands, having to make a few stops to get rid of some built up coffee... I'm thinking Dumpster Rental. :-)

The 30 yard dumpster is the main workhorse for major home addition; construction of new homes; demolition of a garage, a major kitchen remodel; or entire house window or siding replacement for a small to medium size home. These Containers are easier to work with than their big sister.

Big Bad 40 Yard Dumpster

How big is this dumpster?
40 Yard - 8' high, 8' wide, and 22' long
* Actual dumpster sizes vary per market area.

How much can this dumpster hold?
40 Cubic Yards of material

The average pickup-truck holds approximately 2 yards of material so this container holds approximately 20 pick-up truck loads. Can you really afford to run back and forth 20 times?!?!

40 yarders are a little more difficult to use because of their height. If you're equipped for it then they work well for window or siding replacement for a large home; commercial roof tear offs; commercial clean outs; new construction or major additions; and large amount of trash, paper, or cardboard. Typically these big bad containers are best for the Pros who use them all the time and have the right set ups. But, who knows! Call us if you're not sure.

  7. I've seen people use these huge dumpsters and have always wanted to get one, I just haven't done a job big enough that requires me to actually get a dumpster rental minneapolis service. One day.. I can see how much more convenient the job would be with one of these.

  11. This is an excellent guide. My husband and I built a deck in our backyard but didn't think to ask the dumpster rental in Phoenix about weight limits. In the end, it turned out not to be a problem, but we were pretty worried when they couldn't get the thing off our property!

  14. That is good to know, I think that a smaller size dumpster will probably work out for me. I am just clearing out the junk in my shed, and also getting rid of some of the trimmings off of my tree.

  17. We just bought an old house, and we're going to completely remodel it. That means we have to get rid of everything inside. I was wondering what size of dumpster I would need to rent, but based on this info, I think a 20-yard dumpster ought to do the trick. http://flannerysdropbox.org/Services/

  20. It seems like there is always more debris to clean up at a project than was originally expected. It is wise to rent the bigger dumpster just in case. If you had a lot of extra room, no problem. If you ran out of room, and there was a lot of stuff left out of the bin, oops.

  25. As a fathers day gift, me and my siblings had agreed to do a giant yard project. Over the last 10 years our yard has gone into complete disarray and needs immediate help. Besides just organization, there is a lot of trash that needs to be removed. This was great to help determine exactly what size of a dumpster rental we need to help get rid of all of this trash. http://www.rollonrolloff.net

  27. When my family was moving, we rented a 40-yard dumpster and were very happy with it! It was less stressful to just fill the dumpster instead of having to pile up a ton of garbage bags on the curb. I know that it might seem like overkill, but it is surprisingly easy to fill one of those huge dumpsters when you're moving. It might inspire you to clean out a little better and declutter your house.

  28. It's better for a dumpster rental to be a little bit too big than too small. Dumpsters can fill up surprisingly fast during yard work projects. Bags and branches can take up a lot of room. roadrunnerwastenm.com

  35. It's pretty incredible that there are dumpsters that can hold forty cubic yards of material. You said that this type of dumpster would be good for window or siding replacement for a large home. Perhaps I should look into getting a forty yard dumpster to use now that I need to replace the siding on my home. This way, I can be sure that I'm getting a dumpster that can hold all of my waste. I think I fall under one of the reasons to rent a dumpster. I just need to know how big of a one to get. Even after reading the sizes I have no clue what I need. I'll see what I can do about calling it in. https://www.tri-statedisposal.com/cities/oak-lawn/
